dc.description.abstract During their graduation ceremony on Wednesday, March 30th, 2022, members of peer counseling and the university counselor. Throughout the course, students receive training and professional support to prepare them to be peer counsellors. Peer counsellors receive training in communication, listening skills, assertiveness, peer counselling ethics, issues of confidentiality and breach of confidentiality, boundaries for helping others, and basic counselling skills. A peer counselor is also trained to recognize when it is appropriate to refer someone to a professional counselor. Despite training, they are not certified as counsellors. A peer counselor at Riara University acts as a liaison between the counselor and the students when they are working with a counselor. In the absence of a university counselor, peer counselors help their peers understand and resolve emotional and behavioral issues. en_US
