Abstract:
Riara signed an MOU with Wadhwani Foundation led by their Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Mr. Varsay Wanjau on Faculty and Student Entrepreneurship Development on and off campus. Wadhwani Foundation (WF) is a global organization with its inception in the USA and with a primary mission of accelerating economic development in emerging economies. Wadhwani Foundation (WF) has launched and supports niche high impact initiatives in job creation and fulfillment in India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and is now expanding its efforts to East African countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania.
WF impacts economic development through ‘Job creation’- Entrepreneurship & SME development (NEN). The National Entrepreneurship Network endeavors to support ‘job creation’ in East Africa. It does this by mainstreaming entrepreneurship in education for national impact and by supporting start-ups and SMEs to grow their companies. In East Africa employability of the students is an issue; the other big challenge is lack of high-quality formal jobs that the graduates can take. Similarly, a large part of the MSMEs (98+%) in the region fail in the micro and small category, which means that a majority of these companies are not creating enough economic wealth and jobs. All these factors lead to a lack of jobs and to slower economic prosperity for a large number of people.
